This diner serves HUGE portions

HELLLOOOO party people. This brunchie is back to writing breakfast blogs. This diner was a recommendation from one of my friends! Cody said he always comes here with his parents so we had to try it out when I was up at SLO.

As I am realizing I go out to breakfast a LOT (so I am very much behind on my blogs shhhhh) I have added some extra categories to help make more differentiations between all the spots I go to. If you have any more suggestions, let me know!

Review of Margie’s Diner

Restaurant: Margie’s Diner

Location: San Luis Obispo, CA

Hours: 6:30 a.m. – 9 p.m.

Overall rating: 2/5

Margie’s Diner boasts that they serve REAL FOOD (yeah, I’d hope so..)

Margie’s Diner is tucked away next to this motel.

The floral wallpaper, red leather booths and tacky carpet give this place a vintage feel.

There are multiple seats at the counter.

This side of the restaurant has a lot more natural light coming in through the windows.

Their menu has breakfast, lunch and dinner options, with some wit too.

The menu was pretty funny. If your humor is dry, you’ll get a kick out of reading it.

The brunch spread

(Any questions about the shirt? Matt made it for his brother’s bachelor party. Any more questions and how to order one just like that one???? hit up @mattmeredith)

Patty melt

What I ordered: Patty melt ($14.75)

I was feelin’ some greasiness, so I opted for the patty melt, one of my favorite brunch items. I asked for it to be cooked medium rare, and I chose to go all out on the onion rings. And booooy, wow, these portions are very very large. I could only eat a half of my sandwich. The rye bread was good, I thought the cheese could’ve been meltier. The caramelized onions were okay, but I think they could’ve packed some more flavor in it. But they did follow my instructions to cook the patty medium rare, so that was good. Onion rings were a little bit of a disappointment. They seemed to be tossed in breadcrumbs, and more than anything I was just wondering where they bought their onions? I mean, wow, those rings were not playin’.

What Matt ordered: Pancake combo with eggs, sausage & bacon ($15.95)

Pancake combo

I had a bite of his pancakes, and they were fluffy and sweet. Nothing too extraordinary though.

What Cody ordered: Some omelette I don’t remember?

Now I will say I had a bite of one of the biscuits – verrrrry yummy. Cody said he gets this omelette every time, so I’m sure it’s got to be pretty tasty.

Margie’s Diner was overall underwhelming. Service was slow and not very personable. The portions are crazy, but with the lackluster flavor and dingy decor, I’d rather have less. The menu gave a good chuckle, but chances are I won’t be back.
