Tortilla Republic in Laguna Beach, CA

They’ve got a prime location and have a modern flare to their decor and food.

Tortilla Republic is a Mexican restaurant with a modern twist.

Tortilla Republic has indoor and outdoor seating with dark wood tables and statement decorations.

Our reserved room at Tortilla Republic

We were a pretty large group and they reserved us a spacious room. We fit at two tables. Large ropes hung from the ceiling to add texture to the sleek and smooth tables and chairs.

Tortilla Republic offers brunch, lunch, dinner and happy hour menus.

The first thing that really surprised me about this menu was their prices — and it was because they were so much lower than I would expect. With their prime location, extravagant decorations and the overall feel of the place, I was prepping myself for prices that would be an eyesore, those scary numbers closer to $20. BUT everything on the menu was reasonable! Here is the link to the full brunch menu.

Complimentary chips and salsa

Chips were warm, crisp and salty. Salsa was classic and not too spicy. Service the entire time was very fast and our waiters were sweet and accommodating to our large party.

Huevos Rancheros

What I ordered: Huevos Rancheros ($10)

“2 eggs sunny side up, roasted peppers, onions, cherry tomatoes, monterey jack cheese, black bean purée, ranchero sauce, crema, avocado”

The presentation for everything was beautiful. Overall, this dish was very satisfying and what you would expect. The sauce was the right balance between creamy and grainy. I was looking for extra texture or a crunch of some sort. There were dollops of crema, but I felt like it wasn’t enough to stand out against the other bold flavors. I was looking for a fresh, cool flavor to balance the flavors out.

I was very impressed with the coffee. The coffee was rich and had nutty undertones. It complimented all the Mexican flavors in my brunch quiiiite nicely.

Shout out to Christina in the background 😉

And of course, I had to take up the golden opportunity to say “WAIT DON’T TOUCH YOUR FOOD, I NEED A PICTURE FIRST.” Yup, that’s what you get for going out to brunch with me – but these were just too photogenic not to take a picture of. Very snap and Insta-worthy.

I would definitely come back to Tortilla Republic. Laguna scenery, delicious dishes, and an atmosphere that makes you feel like you’re a big spendaaaa (even when you’re secretly not).
